November Newsletter
Message from Artistic Director Peter Slowik
You might not think that a summer program would be doing much in November, but it's one of our busiest months. We're so excited that we've laid the framework for next month's Messiah performances, summer chamber music program, orchestral week in Chicago, and mission trips! Thank you to everyone who makes this possible — donors, teachers, parents, students! We have much to be thankful for!
Peter Slowik
Credo Artistic Director
Messiah performances coming soon — mark your calendar!
Credo's annual sing-along Messiah is a marvelous opportunity for you to experience the wonder of Christmas.
Join us in Chicago: December 2, 4 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest
or Oberlin: December 16, 7 PM at Finney Chapel, Oberlin College.
Both performances will have wonderful soloists, a fine orchestra made up of Credo alumni, and a chorus that will be MUCH better if you come and bring your friends!
All the details can be found here. You might especially enjoy the links at the bottom of the page to some practice recordings for soprano, alto, tenor and bass!
Summer Program applications open
The Credo website has been updated with all the information for our celebratory summer of programming — 2 weeks in Oberlin, 1 week in Chicago, mission trips to Texas and Dominican Republic, and MANY opportunities for alumni to come side by side with our program. Applications are open for all of these programs, and we're already receiving a few applications each week.
Track of the Month
We're thrilled to begin a new Credo tradition — and give you another reason to read our newsletter. This issue we're starting a feature called "Track of the Month." Our many Credo alumni can be heard as soloists with orchestras, in baroque solo albums, in popular music, in quartets — there's no end to the joy that they bring the world with their art.
In each month's presentation we will give you a FREE downloadable track for you to enjoy and share. We'll also tell you about our alumni and what they're doing — and give you the opportunity to purchase more of their music if you're interested.
We thought we'd start the Track of the Month with an early Christmas present: "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by the Foto sisters.
Adelyn, Gayelyn, and Katelyn Foto were fantastic Credo students in the summer of 2014. They have continued to hone their vocal and instrumental talent, and have developed quite a career — read more about them here.
In memoriam: Credo Advisory Board member Kurt Kaiser
Beloved composer and pianist Kurt Kaiser passed away this week at the age of 83. Kaiser, an inspirational figure to many through such familiar songs as “Pass It On” and “Oh How He Loves You and Me,” was a valued member of Credo's Advisory Board. Kaiser had a six-decade-long career in composing, playing, arranging and producing Christian music. His songs, found in dozens of contemporary hymnals and songbooks, are sung by millions of Christians around the world.
